Melina is a comedian, writer, producer, and musical theater performer with a passion for the absurd and uplifting underrepresented voices in comedy.
She graduated from The Theatre School at DePaul University iwhere she earned a BFA in Comedy Arts. Through this program, she explored interests in screenwriting, the business of theater, film & TV, and what it means to be a producer in the entertainment industry. As well as, of course, theatre and comedy.
Originally from Miami, Florida, she attended New World School of the Arts High School for musical theater. Musical theater remains a big passion in her life and she recently played the character Raf in The Truth About Love: The Musical. The second rendition of this show went up in the de Maat Studio Theater at The Second City.

Since coming to Chicago she has been able to perform at and produce for comedy venues all over the city including but not limited to The Annoyance, iO Theater, The Lincoln Lodge, Cornservatory, Otherworld Theater, and The Second City. Honing her craft as a creator during college was transformative as she developed works like The Musical at the End of Times, Sans Titre, and Appease the Algorithm. Created by Melina and writing partner Luke Herman, Appease the Algorithm is the third show in a continuing series that satirizes the absurdity of overly avant-garde and political theater.

Within the realm of improv, she is a featured player in both The Fashionistas (Funny Funny Fashion, Lincoln Lodge) and The Left Unattended Players (Left Unattended, Cornservatory). Notably, she was an original member in Otherworld Theatre’s, Improvised Romantasy (Otherworld, de Maat Studio Theater, The iO).
Also! She performs with Sketch Playlist at the iO through the sketch team, Hearsay.
Melina Arevalo has a deep love for the entertainment industry and has dreamed of working with in it since childhood. The vastness of the industry is exciting and she hopes to carve out her niche.
